1995 Audi 90 2.8 V6 Quattro. Randomly dies while driving.

Is the fuel pump noisy? Typically a fuel pump dies as follows:  noisy; momentary fuel outages; longer ones (like now?); dead.

You can generally hear the fuel pump when you turn the key, but before you engage the starter.
