yes, the 6-speed manual had the option of a low-range shift.  this was
implemented my means of a "bolt-on" additional shift stage, which iirc was
actuated hydraulically by means of a switch on the gear lever.  the
low-range was implemented by way of a simple planetary gearset bolted onto
the back of the torsen.  the sun gear is connected to a synchro hub, the
selector sleeve going to the electro-hydraulic shifter.  the planet gears
are fixed to the rear of the torsen planet carrier.  low range is 1.5:1 

they are about as rare as an honest politician.

we love out allroad - can't think of anything to replace it with...
