If this is a manufacturing defect - then it is in fact, in my opinion, unacceptable. But my opinion changes nothing. Note it is also common across manufacturers to have a few cars that use this much oil, and they all call it normal. I also pointed out that in my experience, it is usually due to break-in. I admit it happened to my family once.

Most VAG products have very low oil consumption (today - it was once not true) and very durable motors. Look at the failure rtes of new M3s and M96 porsche motors - Audi motors are very very good. Its service costs that hurt us.

As to the shock of having to check the oil every two weeks on a new car- i think not doing it on a new car is negligent.

I have no dog in this fight, i'm just sayin...its your $30k investment - if i were you i would re think my level of attention.

but most of all, don't consider it the end of the world - it can run a long and happy life burning that much oil, if and only iff you keep after it.
