If it's pre 92, the switch is on the collumn right under where it
meets the dash. It's opperated by a linkage that pushes toward it when
you turn the key. Basically, the top of hte key part pushes on it when
turned. It will make more sense when you pull the plastic off the
collumn. The linkage just sort of sits in there, with a 90deg bend in
it. That's what slides the switch back and forth.

I've had to replace them on both of mine over the years, I have an 83
E150 conversion, and an 86 E350 Cargo.
