I rip it at the highest rate in itunes (256?), whick seems to be less awful. No point in losless mp3 cuz you'd need a 500 jiggabyte drive.

 Ona boat.. The convenience outweighs the sound issue. Its when I want to listen that I pop in the cd. Ona boat an ipod setup would be the way to go.

lossless, or did you rip CDs with standard encoding (compression)?
