iPods may be ridiculously inexpensive today, but they're not all the 
same. I have an old U2 iPod, second generation? and a newish Nano, fifth 
generation.

With the same music and headphones, there is a striking difference in 
music depth between the two. The Nano sounds fine...until you listen to 
the same music on the older unit. Now I just use the Nano for radio.

One of these days I'll load some songs onto my iPhone and see how it 
sounds. I suspect that the size limitations on the Nano required some 
shortcuts. However, there's a lot packed into the iPhone too...
