Salvage title

Tihol,
As mentioned, I'd keep looking. Not so much for the salvage title as
for the fact that it's not that great of a deal. Even with the low
milage, and a regular title, I don't see that sort of money for it.
Also, the buyer states there was a minor finder bender that caused the
total. Huh? I don't buy it. Here's how that works: The insurance
company takes the value of the car, lets use $10000 for easy math.
This is what they estimate the value of the car at before the
accident. BTW, this is not for this car, just a random example. So,
then they take a percentage of the value, and if the repair exceeds
that amount, it's totalled. That percentage is determined by the age
of the car. For a car 10 years old, that's probably going to be in the
70% range. I believe it's 85% for new cars, and then goes down in 5%
incriments, something like 3-4 years per incriment. So, that $10000
car has to cost less than $7000 to fix, or it's totalled. BTW, I'd ask
for pics of it when it was wrecked.
For this car, I really don't see a bumper replace and paint costing
more that 70% of this car's value. I have an 05 A4 I'm working on that
needs the front bumper, slight hood work, both fog lights, and other
minor stuff, and his estimate is about $3400. That was from a body
shop, I'm only doing mechanical work, just to clarify.
HTH,
Tony
