Gender

Vincent,

I guess from your name that you are from Quebec, like me, or at least a
French-speaking person.

Welcome aboard.

Now, listers, you may not know that, but all inanimate objects in French
have indeed a gender, and there is no equivalent for "it". Only he or she. A
table, a watch, a rifle or a car are feminine. A truck, a necklace or even a
breast are masculine. This may explain why us, when writing or speaking in
English, tend to use gender-based words in our sentences. It still happen to
me numerous times when I have to speak in English after a few weeks without.

Vincent, the boys and girls here are immensely helpful regarding the Audi
cars, but since this list is around since, what, 1994?, they (and I too) are
a bit old fashioned. Nothing negative, but we like complete sentences, good
English, clear questions or point of views, and polite behavior.

Emails are notorious for being insensitive, even with a lol or a :-), so we
generally keep the conversations very low-profile. You won't see any insults
or strong words on this list, this is not a blog or a forum, that's why the
majority of us uses our real names and email address.

I've been around since 2001, and plan to be here for at least another 10
years at least. In fact, I'd like to get that new Sport Quattro show car
that Audi presented last week in Paris. It may take me that time to collect
the money for it...

Again, welcome.

PS : I'm not in any way a moderator or anything like that, just a normal
member of this list like all the others.

-----Message d'origine-----

I don't know bout y'all, but I refer to my vehicles, land, air, or
sea, as females out of tradition. Ships are females and have been
throughout history. Planes are females, and right now, my 90q is
definitely a female - if you don't stroke the throttle just right she
shuts down lol.
