NAC VW Eurovan Camper top question

I think I have a resolution, thanks partly to the information from the list.

I have a new set in there, they were aftermarket online, $25 each. I
suspect that's part of the problem, as they probably don't have as
much lifting power.

I'm planning on adding a second set of them, by modifying the mounting
brackets. It appears the top is water logged since there is a crack
all the way across it. I believe that is a big part of the issue.
