Disabled Radio

When I start the car, it seems the starter hesitates a second and then
cranks engine over strongly, engine starts and functions, and then the radio
goes dead. I have to take out fuse and put in fuse again and input 5-digit
code in radio. Radio works again. I sprayed a bit of oil into fuse slot for
15A radio fuse

Car has new starter motor and ignition switch.

I would never recommend using a brush to clean fuse contacts. The contact
surface can be easily damaged with anything perhaps the finest sandpaper.
Once the contact surface is damaged it will cause heat to be generated,
which will make things even worse over time. Removing the fuse and
reinstalling should be all that is needed. A contact enhancer or even
dielectric grease will help keep corrosion away.

My concern is that there is something which is causing the corrosion ...
moisture in the interior. I had a leaking windshield in the V8 that I was
unaware of for a long time, which caused relay contacts to oxidize and some
wires that were sitting in water corroded though. If you don't already know
about moisture in the cabin you should look for it ...

Possibly corrosion in a minor way. Clean the fuse contacts chemically or
brass brush. In fact pull all the fuses, one at a time and clean or insert/
remove several times.

Hi all,

Started my car, and saw that radio did not turn on, had to take 15A fuse in
number 4 position out, plug fuse back in. inputted CODE into radio, after
which I could turn radio on.

Why did the radio become disabled after having left the car standing without
running for 7 days? This has only happened if the battery became such that
motor could not turn over.
