Could be an urban legend, but I seem to remember from somewhere the changer 12 pins had # 1 & 12 reversed to make it an OEM specific (proprietary) item, so you couldn't buy the Kenwood, Alpine, Sony brand at the time and just swap in components / cables.
Maybe a further search or crutchfield might have some leads?

The changer never worked from day one, and I decided to finally check into the issue. It was determined that the changer itself was dead.I have since purchased another Pioneer changer (CDX-P1280), and I didn't do my homework sufficiently and ended up with a unit that will not as I had hoped "plug and play" with the cars wiring.I had an FM modulated changer, and I purchased a NON FM modulated changer that came with a long control cable that has two rectangular 12 pin female (socket) ends. The deck has a 12 pin round female CD control output/input on the back plate.Any way of making the 2 units play nice via an adapter? I have tried repeatedly to obtain a wiring diagram for the Nakamichi to no avail. I have the correct plug (and pig tail) for the deck (harvested from and older Audi at the breakers), and thought about cutting an end off the changer cable to make a "hybrid" adapter. I don't want to ruin the Pioneer cable if these 2 brands won't talk to one another. Also, without wiring diagrams for both I feel it would not be possible to splice an adapter.Any possibilities? Anyone want to buy a factory refurbished CDX-P1280?TIA Dennis Denver------------------------------
