Oh, very interesting
Didn’t know that. Thanks for the heads-up.

On the systems I worked on, Bosch ESP 8.0, there was no MAF input for the
ESP : but then, it was on 2003-2005 Renaults and VWs, so I guess Audi chose
a better ESP setup to justify their premium segment.

So you now have your answer : the VSC is indeed MAF dependent

BTW, I would never assume an Audifan would not differentiate the MAF from
the ETC
But I’m the guy that already emptied a manual transmission instead
of the oil pan, and filled the engine with fresh oil. It was only when I
started the engine that I noticed the idle was a bit slow
 With 8 liters of
oil in the oil pan, the crankshaft was a big oil mixer and the engine
sounded like a big outboard Evinrude. J

Ok, just did a little Googling and came up with this (or similar) in a
couple of spots - ABS/traction control systems monitor

the air flow via the MAF as in input to determine whether to interrupt the
power....

L-A, the throttle body is on the driver's side of the engine, the MAF on the
passenger's side, so I don't think even I, with 10 thumbs,

could confuse them.... ;-)

Maybe you unplugged the electronic throttle instead of the MAF ? This one is
indeed part of the VSC (vehicle stability control, also called ESP) where it
will lower the power if wheelspin is detected. The MAF (mass air flow)
sensor has no role in the VSC, it only provides data to the ECU.
