IME a functioning but nearly dead pump can draw well over 10A, which can overload many battery chargers.

My usual way to test the FP is to pull the cover of the FPR and manually close the armature.  If you don't hear the FP buzzing, it isn't likely the pump is working.

BTW, there is no feedback for whether or not the pump is connected ... I think the general feedback mechanism is that if the pump is disconnected there will be no fuel flow to the engine.

Yes, opening a line at the fuel filter would show you what's going on.

Also, I'd connect the FP to the battery (with a fuse).  It might not like the output of the charger, and the charger might not like being hooked up to a fuel pump.
