solar charger hook-up

In my Bentley "Audi 80, 90, Coupe Quattro, page 13 under General 
Information, 2.4 Computer Memory Saver is a picture, 91-A052. They also show 
a Snap-On Computer memory saver P/N YA960.
You may have placed the diode backwards.
