NAC: Jetta Trunk Lid

Well it is definitely the hinges. We removed the struts and the trunk lid wasn't
appreciably easier to open or close. I lubed the hinges up
really well and it is fine now. I will see if it lasts or if I really do need
new hinges.

I'd modify with some ball bearings. =)
I've noticed this: On my wife's 2009 Jetta SE (purchased new), when you "pop"
the trunk, it raises completely by itself. On other Jettas of the same era,
I've noticed them NOT do this, even when new. Clearly some variation going on
there!

Mark, the funny thing is : the hinges look perfect ! Still painted, no rust,
nothing. It’s like the plastic/nylon bushings are getting bigger overtime, or
the coefficient of friction change, or what else. They are so hard to operate
that the trunk lid can be stopped mid-course and stay there. From what I saw,
replacement is the only solution because the pivot points are huge rivets and
destruction is the only other way to access the plastic bushings.
