It seems by your question you know the simple procedure to remove the Instrument cluster. If not, I have a link with pics and step-by-step instructions that will guide you through.
I have owned many C4's and ALL temp display bulbs fail sooner or later so I have done this procedure at least 20 times. The same bulb obtained from Radio Shack for about $2 a pair http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103780 works for both the temperature display and the dashboard gear display (automatic C4's). The whole procedure from start to finish to fix the temp display should take about 45-60 minutes. I found the most difficult part of the task was that after removing the burnt out bulb from the printed circuit board the remnants of the old solder was a biatch to remove in order to have the holes cleared to install the new bulb. Very difficult despite the fact that I was using braided solder absorber and that miniature solder sucker upper device (or whatever it's called...it looks like a miniature turkey baster). The secret is to have two pairs of hands instead of one so you can heat and absorb and remove the old solder simultaneously.

> Anyone have a source or specs for the micro-lamp used to back light the outside temp display? It's very small and is soldered to the circuit board. I can't find one locally that is small enough to fit the hole in the display.
