Well yes a 962 is better than a 911, but with 13" wide slicks on an 1800lb car with 800hp and tons of downforce you'd hope it would be better!
Perhaps you meant 996 (98-2004), 997 (2005-2011), or the current 991?

I recently have been fortunate enough to get some extended seat time in a bone stock '99 Carrera. Wow, sure glad I never raced one of those for titles! The Porsche is probably down 30 hp over the Audi, but what a difference 800 pounds makes! It's quicker, and more importantly, easier to drive fast (but harder to drive slow).

Other than missing the beastly howl of the air cooled 911, the 962 is better in every way I can see. I'm glad the aficionados hate them. A '99 can be had for thousands less than an air cooled 911.
