Audi A3 quattro, final drive #?

If I'm right, the DSG and the manual 6 speed both are twin shaft transmission. And both shafts drive the differential ring gear, but
each with a different pinion.

In the case of the manual, the 1-2-3-4 gears have their own shaft and final drive ratio (pinion is 18 tooth). The 5-6 gears have
another shaft that drives the same differential ring gear (pinion is 23 tooth).

In the case of the DSG, I can't find a proper ETKA page that shows the breakdown of the parts. But I'm sure it has two shafts, and
probably two final drive ratio too.

BTW, my friend Denis and I spent a night last summer in a Golf R (same MT6 box as the A3Q), for testing purpose. Ok, male bonding
too, as we both have young kids and need a bit of manly discussions once in a while...

So, while we drove that car in the country roads north of the city, we clearly "felt" the twin shafts at every launch. In fact, we
wondered a bit about that gear noise we heard each time we released the clutch pedal. Radio was off, windows open, and upon engaging
forward motion, we felt there was a bit of "slack" in the driveline. No reason to, because all the driveline play must be loaded if
you release the clutch, right ? But in this box, when you start in first, you load the primary shaft (1-2-3-4) but the other shaft
(5-6) is unloaded while it is driven by the ring gear. That's the conclusion we came too at around 2:00 in the morning, after a very
nice blast in the august country roads. No alcohol or illegal substances were involved...

If our theory is wrong I'd really like to know it. Before writing that in my magazine and making a fool of myself...

Hey all,

Question on this funny thing I came across on Audiworld, the bane of misinformation, usually...

I was digging around on various A3 versions, and saw they list two different final drive ratios for the quattro DSG, but also the
FWD Manual or DSG. For a minute, I thought maybe there was a two ratio transfer case at work, but in FWD manual, I don't get that
at all. So, I was curious if anyone knows anything about this, or if something was lost in translation.

The article in question is here
http://www.audiworld.com/model/a3/09/2009AudiA3_2.0tech.pdf
but it applies to the 2010 as well in their model guide.

other sources are saying 3.10 for the TDI and Gasser alike, just curious whats going on here.

Not trying to put together a TDI quattro manual, or anything. Promise.
