Suitable A8 catalytic converter replacement?

I dunno about the CEL, but sounds like a good plan.
I recently did some on a Navigator and didn't have a chk eng light problem.
Got them from a cat conv wholesaler in Tampa.

Instead of digging in the bin for someones used cat for my passenger side
of my A8, I was wondering if anyone has any experience using an off the
shelf weld in replacement that will work with the A8 and not throw codes or
the likes.  I have a 99, so no pre-cats for that year, and hopefully it
would be less temperamental than a later model.  I'm thinking of something

I have basically given up on finding a cheaper replacement, but I can
pretty easily cut the old one out and get the new one tacked on the car and
welded in pretty easily.  Sawzall/band saw and my miller should make it an
afternoon project at most.
