I am about to replace the molding on the bottom of the driver door on my
2001 A4

The molding started coming loose several months ago and I removed it
completely over
the weekend

I have found replacement molding, but I have no idea how to affix the new
molding

When I removed the molding, there were plastic clips left on the posts on
the door

Can anyone explain how to attach the clips to the new molding and the
molding to the
door?

thanks

Mario Pinto

Mario,

It slides on from the rear of the door. The clips actually are supposed to
stay with the door. The procedure is:

1) Have new molding in hand. Remove the little plug from the end of the
slide-rail.

2) Thoroughly clean the area where the trim is to be mounted.

3) Replace any plastic clips that are broken.

4) Open door.

5) Slide new molding onto the clips one at a time from the rear edge of
the door, working your way forward one clip at a time. It gets tougher and
tougher to slide forward as you go. This is why I suggest cleaning
thoroughly, so that left over grit doesn't get ground into the paint under
the new molding.

6) There is some sort of little clip that goes in at the end to secure it.

Good luck, have fun, etc.
