You'd want to ping the listers who know that motor best, also vortex has a
lot of 1.8t knowledge, or mg.com. That being one of the last years of the
1.8t you'd think it would be the most reliable version with most kinks
worked out. I believe the earlier models were more plagued than the
others. I do know they changed heads on them after maybe 2000 or so. They
changed the port size from fairly large to much smaller, maybe trying to
alleviate this issue. As well, synthetic oil with frequent changes solves
the issue anyway.
Its a really nice car, though, and if you take care of it and stay a step
ahead, no big deal.
