Funny you should bring this up Nick.
I've got 2 '97 A8Qs
One is my Black/Black with a busted A basket too.
The other is the Silver/Black "parts" car that have a fresh trans rebuilt by Tozo in ChiTown. Its technically totaled due to a rear qtr panel damage in a parking lot boo boo. Its got 20in wheels, bilsteins sport, custom HIDs and a few other bits. I got it spring of last year.
Just before the trans bit the dust on my Black/Black I did the front end, rad fan and had the trans valve body rebuilt too. It was in pretty good shape overall when I parked it 4 years ago.
Don't think I care about the bilsteins, HIDs or maybe 20in wheels.
I've already scavenged the new blower motor and main passenger fuel sender for the wifes '01 A8L. Its got face-lift armrests too.
Need to do the engine/trans swap and get it back on the road.
But first I have to get a concrete pad poured at my house. Country living has its advantages, like plenty of room to drive around in reverse to scrape the rust off the rotors, but you can only do so much on the grass.

So where do you live Nick?
Where/how are you doing the engine/trans pull? Pics during the process would be great.

You can check out some of my pics here:

Currently I have the original 16" wheels on the wife's '01 A8L and her 18" pie plates on my '97, the 20" look cool, but with the bilsteins and 35/30 series tires it just rides a little ruff and the brakes look tiny.

Well, much progress was made today, I managed to get the front end off the
car previously, removed all the lines, wires, etc to the engine, and got
the exhaust and driveshaft off the transmission. I'm ready to pull the
wheels, suspension, and yank the motor.

Unfortunately, I found today that my rear differential is leaking from all
3 output seals, which sucks, but not quite as bad as seeing that my
passenger side catalytic converter is totally gone, most likely due to a
bad coil on the passenger side bank some time in its past life. So, add
that to the list, as well as a lot of lightly charred wiring to my Oxygen
sensors, and a good bit of sound material that is shot as well. Hmph.

If anyone is parting a pre-facelift A8 Q, I could probably use a few bits
right around that area, please get ahold of me. I'm also looking for some
stuff to convert to Nav in my 99, if anyone's got that, or some good info
on how to do so, I'd appreciate it, thank you please :-)
