VW 2.0T question

Seems to me the most important thing is actually changing the oil (and filter) on a regular basis, and not so much the type of oil
used, although I have used synthetic (Mobil1 0w-40) in my car since 5k miles. At 118k miles, I use no oil between
my regular 5k mile oil and filter changes. I've been religious about 5k changes, even if it is overkill with the synthetic. I have
been using only the OEM (4.5 qt) filters as well. 

The problem is that most Americans don't pay any attention to regular changes, so the manufacturers try and protect us from
ourselves by recommending synthetics in many cases, since they traditionally last a little longer than dino oil.
