Allroad Level Warning

My 2004 Allroad developed a level warning light while I was towing a
trailer between Michigan and Colorado. Car was sitting a bit high,
especially in the rear, there were no up and down lights on the
dashboard switches but everything else worked, so I completed the 700
miles left to go. When I got to 10,000 feet of elevation and
disconnected the trailer, car was sitting a bit higher than while in
Nebraska, where the warning appeared.
I have found the big 40-amp fuse and the relay buried ridiculously deep
in the driver footwell to test all right. I have replaced the expensive
level control "computer" and the situation remains the same.
Any suggestions other than coil overs?
