Peek at the clutch switch at the pedal and see if its plugged in or adjust it?? It may be sticking.. I've built an a4 1.8t from top to bottom and remember the computer needs every single ground in order to start.. There some main ones in the footwells and under the hood.
A low battery on a prior Merc E320 kept it from starting.. Even with good cables. Try the battery yet?
