My recent questions about r&r of the starter on a D2 A8, and the helpful
info the q-list has provided, have suddenly become unnecessary. The car in
question hit a deer head-on at 75 mph yesterday between Helena and Great
Falls, Montana. My brother was driving and is ok but the poor car's front
end was smashed back into the engine, taking out much of the ancillary
stuff like belt driven items, timing belt cover and so on. Even so, the air
bags did not deploy. 4,000 lbs of car verses 150 lbs of deer. The deer
essentially exploded; not many identifiable body parts to be found, I'm
told. At least it was quick. My brother said the hard part was trying to
see though a smashed windshield and buckled hood to safely stop and pull
off to the shoulder.
Anyway, State Farm is about to own it. If anyone in Montana would like an
A8 parts car ...
Sad.
