Last year I attended a diesel emissions seminar put on by Pierburg. They
brought up MAF cleaning. They only recommend it as a temporary test. Hot
wire MAFs become thin and damaged over time with particles coming in
contact with the wire. Apparently cleaning them is only at best a short
term solution. If it seems to fix your problem, the MAF will fail shortly
after anyways.
