Zurich vehicle service contract?

My favorite line to ask them when they are in the sell-you mode, is to 
ask them, "If this car is so unreliable that I need an extended service
contract, maybe I shouldn't be buying it."  Then listen to the ums and
ahs and the back-pedalling. But it sounds like this is after-the-sale.

My understanding, from what I've read on various lists and publications,
is that those contracts are money makers for the people selling them.
I'd politely pass on the offer.
