Another possibility is that if the injectors (new or old) leaked some fuel
in to the cylinders it could have washed the oil coating off the sides of
the cylinders and piston rings. A washed down cylinder doesn't make much
compression. Pouring a small amount of oil through the spark plug holes can
cure this quickly (I usually do about a cap full, less with the big caps
that Mobil 1 uses).

I wonder if the starter's Bendix gear is not engaging the ring gear, hence
the "spinning" sound with no cranking. Or (hate to sound like a wise ass)
is it possible the spark plugs were removed and not reinstalled?
