'95 A6qa heater core

Well, it might be the end of the road for my relationship with my '95 A6qa. The heater core is shot...and I don't have a Bentley for this car...how big of a pain is the heater core on this car? It wasn't much fun on my 90q...and that was 10 years ago when I had a lot more ambition. Does the entire dash come out again? Any idea what a shop would charge for this?  
 
Also...got to drive my friend's '08 BMW 550i tonight. Wow! It's been a long time since I'd been behind the wheel of something that fast. I really need to get out more! :)
