And, to prevent another occurrence of a too old belt with no mileage, try to
find an EPDM belt. This rubber-like material doesn't age or cracks like
normal rubber. Many new belts are made of that synthetic rubber. Since there
is no visible wear sign, usually one must use a plastic template to measure
actual wear. Gates and Dayco are the main players here in North America.

I don't know if old car new t-belts are made out of this material, but it
sure would be nice.
