timing belt age as a sole replacement indicator

I just realized I have a 2084 tool (crank lock tool) that I no longer use
and probably won't use ever again, as I've stepped up to the B5 platform.

If anyone needs it, I'm open to selling it, $45 including shipping in the
lower 48. Let me know.

+1 on changing the belt. Easy job, on the I5 engine (though intimidating the
first time I did one, just because if you screw it up. . . .well, you know).
But definitely cheap insurance, and a good chance to gain some confidence
wrenching on your own car. Lots of help from the folks here if you have
questions, though. 

I just did the belt on my 2001 S4 which is more of a PITA, but less so than
swapping in a new engine or dealing with the aftermath of a broken belt.

It's kinda like oil changes. If there is a question of if you should do it,
you might as well just do it. These cars will run forever if they are
attended to. Neglect leads to bad things.
