Brian,

Yes, that is what I am suggesting you try.

You need a "special" tool to make loosening and tightening the dizzy easy.

It is shown in the lower of the 3 photos - it reaches around the dizzy 
body and gets to the 13 mm nut easily.

There is also some good stuff here:

It seems that the 20V dizzy drive gear is prone to damage also...
