2007 Q7 4.2 - "outer left" valve cover gasket?

My local independent mechanic says my valve cover gasket is leaking, 
particularly on the left side, and he could find 3 of the gaskets (inner 
left, inner right, outer right) but not the outer left.  He talked to 
Audi (local dealer?) who said the outer left isn't sold by itself and I 
would need a new valve cover at $800 (CAD)! <gulp>

I sent a note to Blauparts who said they don't carry much for the Q7 but 
they claimed to have found it online at a 'variety' of auto stores.  I 
couldn't find it in my initial search yesterday, but obviously wasn't 
looking in the right places.

Can anyone confirm or deny this Audi claim of needing a new valve cover 
in order to get the outer left gasket?  Or suggest anything else to 
try?  I'm all ears... long time Audi owner, but sadly not a mechanic or 
anywhere close...
