Did someone call?
(1) Your car should have the 2144 cc engine with CIS (identifiable by
the black fuel distributor head).
No one, not even VAG, understands the cold start system on that car
completely.
First, cold starting an ICE requires two things - more fuel and more air.
The air is handled by the auxiliary air valve on the back of the head.
It is heated by the head and electrically, which closes off the extra
air as the engine warms up. Or if you leave the key "on" for too long.
As far as fuel, there are basically two things going on.
One is the warm up regulator (WUR), a/k/a control pressure regulator,
and the other is the cold start valve.
The WUR is on the driver side of the engine and has two fuel lines, two
vacuum lines, and an electrical connector.
The electrical connector is a heater, it is in parallel with the aux air
valve heater, and is always on with ignition.
The fuel lines allow it to use gasoline as a hydraulic fluid to adjust
the control pressure at the fuel dist.
The fuel is probably stale and gone bad, and the WUR is probably clogged
also. Remove, clean, flush, etc.
I forget what the vacuum lines do but go here:

To properly troubleshoot a clean system you need to hook up pressure
gauges to the fuel lines in various places.
The cold start valve, or 6th injector, is actuated by that thermo switch
and some pretty iffy electronics. It's supposed to spray for a few
seconds depending on temperature. The graph is in the manual. (I think
it always gets 12v and the ground is switched, should be obvious from
the manual.)
It is also used for hot starting using the orange hot start pulse relay.
This is mostly for the CIS-E system, but read it anyway:

(2) Speedo cable - yes, at least there was:

I'll sell you the one out of my '82 if you can't get it new.
I'll sell you lots of other cool stuff too, if you want.
(3) Side trim, good luck. I don't think they sell it, and you can't get
it off a car to re-use because it will get bent.
