Alternator differences

Hi Radek,
Do not overlook the fact that there could be enough corrosion between the alternator metal components that would impede the flow of electricity.
Every sub-component of he alternator on my son's car was fine, except where the rectifier block was bolted to the alternator frame there was enough corrosion for the alternator not to work correctly.Similarly, on his starter the ground "did not get" from the front of the starter where it is bolted to the bell housing to the end plate of the starter where some of the brushes are grounded. The ground current eventually went through the bearings (sintered bushings) and the shaft of the starter, ultimately destroying the bushes.
What I am saying is that take every bolted connection apart on the alternator where electricity is supposed to flow, clean the mating surfaces, apply some dielectric grease, and reassemble, assuming that all the components are otherwise fine.
PS. We live in the rust belt.
Good luck, Peter

Before swapping alternators, you could check the diode couples in the '93
alt. I went to a shop and and had them changed - all's been well since. Huw
would probably give you all the details
