stiff shifting on A8

The shift lever itself is physically difficult to move. The transmission is shifting perfectly after the complete rebuild. The transmission shop is concerned with the engine oil leaks bathing the external transmission electrical connectors.

I'd say his hypothesis of an electrical issue could be accurate and easily checked with a VCDS. However, oil level is critical on these so the leaks could very well be causing the level go low and cause issues.
Actually... Are you saying the shift lever itself is physically difficult to move or that gear engagements are harsh?

If I run errands around town and make more than one stop and exceed 10 miles I have to leave the car in gear when I get home, shut the key off, and let it cool for a couple hours for it to return to normal. The transmission rebuilder says the the oil leaks (I plan to fix) are causing the electrical problems but to me it sure feels like a mechanical problem.Any experiences or ideas would be appreciated. The message about the 1972 100LS was interesting. My only new Audi inĀ 44 years of Audis' was a green 1972 100LS.
