1990 Audi 100 on Life Support

Hi Jason, thanks for the thread of hope. I could be wrong but I think the
transmission type I've got 3-speed, type 087, is about the most basic
automatic in that there's no electrical controls, and no vacuum controls.
Downshifting is handled via a mechanical connection with the throttle
body. There may be a transmission speed sensor that sends info to the
ICU/FICU, but that's not likely to cause these symptoms.

I just spoke to the mechanic who said he's ordered a product he's going to
put in it, see if it makes a difference, if not, he's not sure how much I
want to put into it..it's going to get quite expensive. He confirmed that
the product he's ordered is Lucas Transmission Fix. Its ironic, I'd
considered trying that, but thought that a proper diagnosis was the way to
go.

Its also ironic because I'd read that you can't make a proper diagnosis on
an automatic transmission without opening it up. I gather that the
mechanic surmised that given the symptoms, there's nothing he would find
inside by opening the transmission that would possibly give rise to an
inexpensive fix.
