It has been at  least ten years and prices change, but I had the  
transmission in my  100 rebuilt for about $900. The usual problems started  
slipping, 
then  lost reverse.

RE:  Lucas Transmission Fix   I tried a Lucas product  on one of mine, 
circa 2000. Didn't really cure it, but did provide about  20,000 more miles. So, 
I would try it.  I also second the post recommending  a tranny shop, the 
prices quoted circling around $1,000 sound reasonable. As you  say, the 
VW/AUDI 087 is about as simple as they come and removal isn't bad for  an FWD car.
