Falling Headliner

My type 44 experience, for what it is worth (no sunroof). Been 15 years,
but I still remember it. As mentioned, there is a thin layer of foam which
is glued to the fiberboard headliner, the fabric appears to be adhered to
the foam. In fact, when you purchase the fabric it is already glued to the
foam. I removed the headliner (not difficult without a sun roof) and peeled
off the fabric. The I took an orbital sander with a fiber pad and sanded off
the remaining debris on the headliner. Just to be safe, I painted the
headliner to seal it. Then I went to Anne's Fabric Shop (national I believe)
and bought nearly matching headliner material with the foam. About $10.00
a yard. (about 2 yards). Then to my FLAPS for some 3M upholstery glue
(spray can). Sprayed the fiberboard headliner and applied the fabric. Voila! It
is important to press the fabric onto the headliner along the center, then
work out from there.

>From my experience, I would say there is not effective way of regluing the
fabric. It might be possible to do the job without removing the headliner,
but what a mess. The foam pills and goes everywhere. I would look at all
of the mouldings and see if the could be removed and how much they cover the
fabric. I would want to see at least 1/2 an inch. If the headliner
moulding is flexible, it might be possible to push the fabric under, using a putty
knife, or similar.
