I still keep my 100Av. I have more recent cars: Let's see, my X-type being 4WD has appalling economy and last winter kept me up at nights as the battery being old (but still usable) voltage dipped overnight in the frost enough to set off the alarm. The 40 profile tyres and sport suspension jar on each and every pothole. The interior is not roomy enough. As and when the transfer box goes it will be an arm and a leg to repair. It will rust out.

I got in my Passat today and couldn’t get it to go, then the imobiliser and alarm got going. I'd brought the old defective key out of the house with me.

My Peugeot just needed the aircon topping up but other than that and the key fob failing (see a pattern here) hasn’t been a problem car.

My 100Av has no fancy key fob, no alarm , no catalyst (sorry tree huggers), no immobiliser, no aircon ( at least it can't go wrong) and bags of room. It never costs much to get MOT'd (inspection), I got it sorted right when it was my daily driver 15 yrs ago, and there's not much to go wrong. It hasn’t rusted out yet and shows no signs of doing so. I paid cash 15 yrs ago - no payments to keep up. I guess it's my apocalypse day car. In a few years time it will become 'interesting' again.

Who needs a fancy new car, - no one bats an eye anyway.

It's also not worth much to sell, so why would I.

Cheers Rob.
