Alex,
No you cannot get into the trunk by removing the seat.
The easiest way if the vacuum locks don't work (hopefully) is to take a compressor and pressurize the green hose under the rear passenger seat (or use a vacuum depending on its direction). Otherwise the old hammer and punch to the lock cylinder to manually open it works too.
The seat back upper removal:
Remove the head reests completely out then pull the plastic holders up out of the rear seat, they are the "locks".
Good Luck.

Subject: Rear Seat Removal Audi 5000CSTQ
Hello everyone,
It's been a very long time since I asked a question here and I hope someone remembers how to do this:
I have an old heap of a 1987 5000CSTQ, that I'm finally sending off to the scrap yard. There are a few items in the trunk that I need to remove before hauling it away, and alas, I no longer have the keys and the trunk is locked. Power locking system no longer works.
Can I get into the trunk by removing the rear seat back? I know how to get the bottom off, and that's done, but I have no clue about how to remove the rear seat back. Can I yank the lock mechanism out somehow? I'm not particularly interested in preserving the cosmetics or trunklid at this point, I just need to get in there.
Any help, long term memories and/or reminiscences will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Alex
