MP3. I agree the fidelity is a compromise, keep in
mind most MP3's are ripped at the lowest bit rate,
64KBps, to use the least amount of memory.
Most MP3 rippers, I believe, offer higher bit rate
settings. I use Sound Forge and set to 256K.. sure I
chew up disk space, but balance that with the largest
drive you can afford.
I find at the higher bit rates, in cruising car spees
with road noise, I cannot tell the diff.
My 13 yr old son may, but face it boys, we grow deaf
as we age!
The random access nature of MP3 disk stores, combined
with a fast input like FireWire is hard to beat. I
have used 3 Sony cartridges with 10 discs each prior.
Yeah, I yielded to the ease of use, and higher bit
rates, its not bad.
