[s-cars] Accelerator Pedal Removal? Replacements?

Congratulations on your new car! As another lister eloquently pointed out
sometime in the past, this part has a 100% failure rate! It is not a fine
example of German engineering. There are a few other things that will fail
on you. I was hit with all of the little red lights in the switches, and a
seat heater element. Other than these annoyances the car is solid and a joy
to own. (Another thing I try to remember to tell new owners is to check the
spark plug torque RIGHT NOW. They plugs have a habit of coming loose, and
can blow out of the head causing much misery in the process. When I got my
car, I could turn 3 of the plugs with my fingers).

On the gas pedal, the whole thing, including the rod to the top of the
footwell, is a single assembly. You remove it by popping the accelerator
cable off the top of the rod (friction fit, just push it off the top), and
removing the circlip at the hinge point. When taking it off, I think you
can pull it off the hinge first, making it easer to get to the cable at the
top Once you've done it, it's a 5-minute off and 5-minute on operation..
Being an anal cheapskate, I also repaired mine with a hinge, using
pop-rivets instead of screws.
