Bruce:
Does he have the proper AAN tools to torque the bolt? Of he is not using
the Audi torque wrench extension, the bolt will be undertighened if he
follows the factory spec for tighening with the tool.
I have the tools if he needs them.

Hi Bruce;

If this is the second time you've sheared the key on the crank pulley (I
assume that is what you are describing), something is wrong. This is a very
rare occurrence on these engines and track usage will not increase the
likelihood of it happening. The usual cause is improper installation of the
pulley. My guess is that your mechanic:
1. didn't torque the bolt enough and/or
2. didn't use locking compound on the bolt face and pulley face.

This time tell him to use a new bolt as well.

HELP!

OK, so my mechanic knew where to look for the problem, since it happened
before (although more severely last time). The front cog pulley that drives
the timing belt on the crank is broken yet again. F*ck!

I guess with the track time I'm pulling, it's putting a lot of extra stress
on this area.

So does anyone know where I can get a heavier duty timing belt drive pulley
on the crank? Or has anyone drilled through the gear and crank and inserted
pin(s) to strengthen it? Has anyone else even had this problem??

Thanks all, as usual.
