Another data point that could indicate the turbo:
If I start and idle the car in the AM, the engine will continue to smoke for
the couple of minutes I sheepishly wait.
However, within 5-10 seconds of driving the car the smoke disappears. I am
thinking this is because, although still in vacuum (I don't boost the car
when motor is still cold), I am putting a load on the motor which spins the
turbo thereby ejecting whatever coolant/oil that has seeped into the
compressor area/intake track overnight..
Possible?

That's why I was thinking it might be a coolant leak into the exhaust side
of the turbo, if that's even possible.
