Tom:
I think the only stroker AAN that's in a car running up there is Bryan
Lockwood's red Avant. This was really a Dave Jones project, but Bryan got
tired of waiting on Dave and Tim got mop-up duties. Mike Pedersen has Dave
Jones stroker project too.
I spent a day with Peter Blaser developing software & tweaking it. When he
car ran, it was a monster -- I really can't express in words how powerful it
was.
the car could break the wheels loose shifting to 2nd, jam you back in your
seat, then it would max out the ECU, throw a code, and go into limp home
mode.
After that day, Peter, Bryan, Tim & I had 5 2.6l stroker AAN's built! (FYI,
Tim wants to free up some $$, so he needs out of the project, and is selling
his stroker block at a small loss on AUDIFANS.)
There are a bunch of problems to still be worked out though.
In the Dave Jones built stroker, oil consumption is an issue. Piston to
valve clearance was a problem. Also, the air demand of this engine maxes
out the stock Motronic system and a Big MAF/custom software needs to be
developed and tested. That's being worked on now. I'm not doing this work,
but this project is what got me this deep into the software. When it's all
done, the HP number we will be chasing will be way north of 400, but I want
to see it run before I make up any numbers. For my stroker, I've got a s6+ 6
speed on the way here (hardened shaft, wide 1st gear, and oil pump &
external cooler) that should be good to handle the power. My dilemma now
(besides finding a way to keep funding the project) is with this driveline,
I'm thinking it would be nice to find a 2,800 lb car instead of a 4,000 lb
car to put in in. Maybe an Ur Quattro?
Time & money.........
Bob

Wow !
and how about that little 1.8 running 114mph ! Amazing !!!
I had a ride in Tims car last time I was up at NEA and it really is amazing.
Off the line is exceptional but where that car really scared the crap out of
me was when it was moving. Tim took me for a short highway burst. MAN, O-MAN
!!! I gotta get me some of that....
Bob, just curious. Have you ever had the good fortune to drive in any of the
stroker motor cars Tims done for customers. Tim says his car is a dog
compared to them.... WTF?
Tom.

Last week, Tim McClean of Northern European Automotive in Concord NH ran his
UrS4 at NE Audi's "Audi Eliminator" drag race. His best ET was 13.499 and
his high MPH was 103.6. The results are posted here:
http://www.neaudi.com/dragsoverall.htm
The car has the following mods:
RS2 Turbo
RS2 EM
RS2 injectors
RS2 MAF
Northern European Automotive Lightweight Flywheel/Clutch
Software -- (Bill M knows!)
& a Stock Exhaust.
Using some of the ET/MPH calculators out on the 'net, and assuming 4K lbs.,
this translates to about 340 HP at the wheels. Applying the 18% driveline
loss I've seen posted here, and you've got 400HP from this little 2.2.
Whether the HP numbers are right or not, I don't care. Many years ago, my
67 GTO ran 13.99 at 101, and I thought I was hot shit. Miss Piggy with
only 2.2l running a sub 13.5 is something to be proud of.

Regards,
BOB (Hitting "400" was so easy, I ought to be an accountant for Worldcom!)
