I am having some difficulty reprogramming my Remote Lock mechanism. I
have owned the car since April and the Remote locks were not working when
I bought the car (although the PO said they worked for him the last time
that he drove the car (Dec '01). However, I was able to resync the Master
key sometime back in July by using the method described in the owners
manual -- using 2 keys, one in the ignition (ON position) and the one
being reprogrammed in the door lock -- lock the door, remove the key from
the doorlock, then pressing the button on the key one to four times to set
which seat memory position to set to (horn blips once for each key press)
-- wait 5 seconds and hit the button again, the horn blips again and the
doors unlock and the remote is programmed again!
Last week I was on vacation and did not use the locks on my car for about
7 days, once I got home and tried to lock the car with the remote, it
would not lock! However, by using the key in the door, the doors all lock
and the horn blips as it normally does (so it seems that the
locking/security system appears to be functioning). But, when I went
through the reprogramming procedure, it all seemed to be going well until
the final step of hitting the button after the 5 second wait. The horn
never does blip that last time and the doors did not unlock and the remote
still does not work?
I was thinking that it might just be the batteries running low, however,
then the first step of setting the seat memory position (pressing the
button 1 to 4 times) would not work either, but that step seems to work?
Any ideas on how to get my remote back working again? I do remember
reading somewhere about a procedure to reset the security system, buy
leaving the back door open and disconnecting the battery or something like
that? Not sure if that procedure will help my situation or not?
