My mechanic did this when I first bought the car a year ago. The bulb is
soldered rather than socketed, and you'll need to R&R the instrument
cluster. The cluster is relatively easy to remove...first remove the trim
piece in front of the IC, and then the IC itself comes out with a couple of
screws. The hard part, I found, is getting all the wires unclipped. There's
a couple of large connectors that the first time around, I wasn't able to
unconnect. Haven't gone back for a second time yet :)
BTW, moving the steering wheel out and down helps. (if you have a tile
wheel...I can't remember whether the early cars do). Also, cover the wheel
with a towel so you don't scratch the face of the instrument cluster.
