Based on my experience on my 1988 Mazda 323 GTX with 178kmiles in which
the synchros are on the way out (grinding sound during gear change).
The factory recommended tranny oil is GL4/GL5 80W/90 or ATF fluid. I
have been using Mobil 1 75W/90 until 150kmiles when the synchro noise
just kept getting worse. I switched to Redline MTL (which is a GL4) and
until now the tranny is noiseless.
